A post procedure mammogram I read which reminded me of the “footprints in the sand” poem
Man that first step is hard.
I will tell you that I have been through many trials and tribulations in my life (more to come on that in later posts) but starting a blog ranks pretty much up there in terms of causing uneasiness.
Thoughts start swirling around in my mind like, “Why are you opening up to complete strangers on the internet to bare your past mistakes?” and “What more can you possibly contribute to the blogosphere that hasn’t already been told by many that are probably far more qualified to do so?”
These thoughts only serve to make your foot that much heavier, urging you to not take that first step and be complacent.
I think it is human nature for one not to venture out of one’s comfort zone.
After all it is called COMFORT zone for a reason. When you are comfortably sitting in your chair or even better laying completely enveloped in blankets in bed on a cold chilly day, it takes a Herculean effort to move.
However we would never progress or make advancements if we never made that initial effort.
The idea of blogging has been on my mind for several years. Several of my colleagues have encouraged me to start a blog for some time now, citing how passionate I am on topics such as personal finance or even reviewing items I have purchased. Yet my foot remained planted.
I have devoured blogs written about subjects I love and saw the benefit they provided to the readers and the camaraderie they created. Yet my foot remained planted.
So what has changed? I officially launched this blog to coincide with my 47th birthday (April 23, 2018). I realized that if I never make an effort to lift that foot of the ground it will grow roots and I will always be left wondering, “What if?”
That to me is a worse fate than trying and failing. Hopefully neither of these scenarios comes to fruition and this endeavor takes off.
It is my sincerest hope that I too can also provide valuable content to my readership that they can use in their everyday life all the while developing a lasting friendship.
I by no means imply that I know all the solutions to even topics I have may have created. But I will do my best to provide honest examples of how life has thrown multiple curveballs at me and some of the minefields I have dodged to get me to the place where I am today.
Hopefully my mistakes can help readers avoid them or at the very least we can commiserate together on those mistakes we share.
So please join taking this first step with me and hopefully we can continue on a path that eclipses that thousand mile mark and mutually benefit from it.
(And don’t forget to subscribe to this blog to be always notified of new posts)

P.S.
What are some of the factors that have kept you from taking that first step (if you haven’t already), or if you have started the journey on a lifelong dream, what helped you overcome those initial hurdles?

I started my blog to chronicle my retirement. MY goal was to get it up before the WCI conference. I achieved that goal. You are off to a good start.
Thank you 🙂 It definitely has been an interesting journey right up to the moment I pressed the launch button 🙂 It was something my friends encouraged me to do but kept putting it off. Then something clicked and I made it a goal to have it up and running on my 47th birthday which I accomplished. I hope you continue to read the posts and would love any advice you may have.
Welcome to the blogosphere! May you find as much success in this as you have as a radiologist and in your financial life!
Thank you so much. It is especially all the more meaningful coming from pretty much the person who inspired it all and had quite an impact on my own financial life. Definitely have been passionate writing these posts (spent the first 2 weeks before launching the site just writing post after post) and just hoping that it can find an audience that likes the content.
Welcome to physician blogging! (I’m not as well known as many of the other bloggers…and I don’t emphasize finance on my blog…it’s more about my “side hustle” than anything else).
Look forward to reading!
Thank you for the greetings. It is definitely a wonderful community to be in and I love the interaction with other bloggers especially. I find it a very helpful and inviting group of people who genuinely want to see everyone succeed. This so far has been an amazing creative outlet so hopefully it gains a wide audience because that would mean it is making an impact.
Thank you for taking the time to blog your success and failures. Your journey allows us to follow and avoid the pitfalls and enjoy similar success
Thank you so much for the kind words. It is incredibly rewarding to receive positive feedback like that and just gives proof I’m making headway with what I’m trying to accomplish with this blog.
Hey Xrayvsn! I really like the design of your site! You did a great job with it. Good luck on your blogging journey, I started my blog just a couple of weeks before you did.
Really appreciate the great positive feedback. Nice to see a blogger in the same class as me 🙂 It is definitely a lot more work than I ever thought, but it has been incredibly rewarding so far. Here’s to success for both of us 🙂 ?
